5 photostyling tips for inspiring instagram photos

Als fotostylist vind ik het met Instagram geweldig om fotografie en styling te combineren! Ik kan helemaal los gaan op het stylen van foto's o.a. door middel van het gebruik van props, maar ook met foto nabewerking. 

Hieronder geef ik je een paar van mijn tips om je instagram foto's te verbeteren door middel van fotostyling. Styling is niet alleen over hoe je mooie spullen bij elkaar zet, maar ook dat je een verhaal verteld met je foto.
Verbeter je foto en styling skills met de tips, experimenteer en blijf oefenen, want je weet; oefening baart kunst!

As a photostylist, I think with Instagram it is great to combine photography and styling! I can go loose on styling of pictures, through the use of props, but also with photo editing.

Below, I will give you some of my tips to improve your instagram photos using photo styling. Styling is not just about how to put together beautiful things, but also to tell a story with your photo. 

Experiment with the tips and keep practicing, because you know; practice makes perfect!

1. kleur | color

Kies een paar kleuren die je wilt gebruiken voor je foto's en maak hiervan een kleurenpalet. Door een vast kleurenpalet te hebben is je Instagram feed constanter en ben je herkenbaar voor je volgers. 

Mijn vaste kleuren zijn ( aqua ) blauw, roze, geel en groen ( dmv planten). 

Choose a few colors you want to use for your photos and make a color palette. By having a solid color palette, your Instagram feed is more consistant and makes it recognizable to your followers. My solid colors are ( aqua) blue, pink, yellow and green ( from plants).

2. storytelling 

Creeer een thema voor je foto. Zo is het ook makkelijker om je props bij elkaar te zoeken. Kijk hierbij of de props goed bij je thema passen. 

Belangrijk is wat je wilt zeggen met je foto, wat is het verhaal? Op de eerste foto zie je een feestelijk thema met taartjes, confetti en bloemen. Bij de tweede foto zie je een DIY foto met craft materialen.

Important is what you want to say with your photo, what's the story?  At the first photo you can see a festive theme with cakes, confetti and flowers. In the second picture you see a DIY setting with crafty materials.

3. Invalshoeken | Angles

Probeer eens een andere invalshoek te kiezen. Belangrijk is wat je wilt vertellen met je foto. Een bakje yoghurt kun je op een tafel fotograferen, maar je kunt het ook in je hand van bovenaf gefotografereerd. Een nieuw plantje steelt de show als je het vasthoud in je hand. Bovendien zijn foto's met handen populair op Instagram. Het geeft net even een menselijke 'touch' en maakt de foto minder statisch. 

Try another angle for your photos. Important is what you want to say with your photo. You can photograph a bowl of yogurt on a tabletop, but you can also take it in you hand and take the photo from above. A new plant steals the show if you hold it in your hand. Please note that photos with hands are very popular on Instagram. It just gives it a human touch and makes the image less static.

4. Kaders | Frames

Gebruik een kader voor je foto's. Zo trek je het oog naar het onderwerp en de foto wordt hierdoor net wat interessanter. Dit is perfect te gebruiken in reis - of interieurfoto's. Een kader kan zijn bijvoorbeeld een brug, een poort een boom. 

Use a frame for your photos. This way you draw the eye to the subject and the picture becomes more interesting. This is perfect to use in travel photos or photos of interiors. A frame can be, for example, a bridge, a gate a tree.

5. Nabewerken

Nabewerken is heel belangrijk voor de 'look' van je foto's. Je kunt hierin je foto lichter maken, meer kleur toevoegen en ook inzoomen. Je hoeft niet altijd alles op de foto te laten zien. Snijd er een stukje vanaf en je hebt een totaal andere foto.
Ik bewerk mijn foto's met apps als A Colorstory of Snapseed, met Photoshop of met Pic Monkey op de computer.

Editing is very important for the look of your photos. You can make your photo lighter, add more color and zoom in. I edit my photos with apps like A Colorstory or Snapseed, with Photoshop or Pic Monkey on the computer.
