Het Plan | The Plan
Voor deze challenge wilde ik mijn hal aanpakken. Ik heb nog nooit wat met deze ruimte gedaan sinds ik in dit huis woon. Dus een goede reden om hiermee aan de slag te gaan!
Met de Flexa Visualizer App keek ik of de kleur op de muur zou staan. Heel handig deze app trouwens, je kunt het gratis downladen en elke Flexa kleur op je muur visualiseren.
Met de kleurtesters heb ik A4 stalen gemaakt en deze op de muur geplakt om te kijken of het mooi zou staan. Je kunt de kleurtesters ook direct op de muur gebruiken.

Voor het ontwerp voor op muur, heb ik mij laten inspireren door de gave geometrische vormen van de jaren 60. Ik denk dat Spiced Honey met de andere kleuren Pink Nudity, Bright Star en Joyful Ruby perfect gaat passen bij het ontwerp. Het ontwerp van het retro gedeelte maakte ik met de restjes stalen, waarvan ik de vormen uitknipte en puzzelde tot ik een mooie balans vond. Natuurlijk kun je dit ook in Illustrator doen.
Ik heb gekozen voor Krijtverf, omdat ik dit een fijne matte verf vind om mee te werken en ook toepasbaar op het krukje wat ik wilde verven.
Aan Het Werk | Get To Work
Allereerst heb ik de randen afgetaped met crepetape. Daarna heb ik het gedeelte van de muur afgetaped waar ik Spiced Honey op wilde verven. Eerst verfde ik de randen met een kwast en daarna vulde ik de rest in met een roller. Ik heb dit laten drogen voordat ik verder ging met de rest.
Nu het leuke werk: het ontwerp op de muur zetten! Ik verdeelde het nog te schilderen gedeelte in 6 vlakken met crepetape op de muur. Deze vlakken verfde ik met de verschillende kleuren en wachtte tot dit gedroogd was. De kleur Joyful Ruby is iets dunner dan de rest en heb ik in meerdere lagen moeten aanbrengen.
Daarna maakte ik een sjabloon van een halve cirkel met bruin kraftpapier. Deze cirkel heb ik uit de hand getekend, omdat ik dat mooier vond voor dit ontwerp. Om de halve cirkel op de muur te tekenen, plakte ik de vorm op een van de vlakken met tape en trok het over met een potlood. Dit verfde ik in met een van de kleuren. Op het rechte gedeelte van de halve cirkel plakte ik een stuk tape, zodat ik dit in een rechte lijn zou gaan verven. Voor een halve cirkel aan de andere kant, draaide ik het sjabloon om.
Dit herhaalde ik totdat ik alle halve cirkels had geverfd en zo ontstaat er een retro dessin.
Het is even een werk, maar dan heb je ook wat!
Het Resultaat | The Result
Et voila! Mijn nieuwe retro hal! Ik ben heel blij met het verrassende resultaat! Het is een gezellige warme hal geworden en helemaal mijn stijl: speels en vrolijk.

After the colors Denim Drift and Heart Wood, the Color of Year 2019 was announced at Flexa. It became Spiced Honey. It is a warm color, sometimes with a golden glow in a certain light. I must honestly say that I would not immediately choose this color at first, but I was challenged by Juudith Home, to get started. A real challenge for me, especially because the palette Flexa had chosen, is one with mostly soft colors. I accepted the challenge and made a beautiful hall makeover with a retro touch!
The Plan
I wanted to paint my hall for this challenge. I have never done anything with this space since I live in this house. So a good reason to get started!
With the Flexa Visualizer App I checked if the color would be perfect on the wall. Very handy this app, you can download it for free and visualize every Flexa color on your wall.
With the color testers I made A4 samples and stuck them on the wall to see if it would look good. You can also use the color testers directly on the wall.
For the design on the wall, I was inspired by the geometric shapes of the 60s. I think that Spiced Honey perfectly matches the design with the other colors Pink Nudity, Bright Star and Joyful Ruby. I made the design of the retro part with the remains of the samples, from which I cut out the shapes and puzzled until I found a nice balance. Of course you can also do this in Illustrator.
I chose Chalk paint, because I think this is a fine matt paint to work with and also applicable to the stool that I wanted to paint.
Get to Work
First I taped the edges with crepetape. Then I taped the part of the wall where I wanted to paint Spiced Honey. First I painted the edges with a brush and then I filled in the rest with a roller. I let this dry before I went on with the rest.
Now to the nice work: put the design on the wall! I divided the still to be painted part in 6 areas with crepetape on the wall. I painted these surfaces with the different colors and waited until it was dried. The color Joyful Ruby is slightly thinner than the rest and I have to apply it in several layers.
Then I made a template of a semi-circle with brown kraft paper. I have drawn this circle out of hand, because I liked it better for this design. To draw the semi-circle on the wall, I taped the shape onto one of the surfaces and draw it over with a pencil. This shapeI painted with one of the colors. I put a piece of tape on the straight part of the semi-circle so that I would paint it in a straight line. For a semi-circle on the other side, I turned over the template.
I repeated this until I had painted all half circles and this creates a retro design.
The Result
Et voila! My new retro hall! I am very happy with the surprising result! It has become a cozy warm hall and completely my style: playful and cheerful.
